Privacy Policy

Grainy is an app for taking photos and adding a film look on your phone. This policy says, in plain words, what it uses and where that stays.

1. Camera

Grainy uses the camera only while you are taking a photo. Photos are processed on your phone.

A photo is saved on the phone only if you choose to keep it. A photo you discard is not saved.

If you do not allow the camera, you can still view the sample photo that comes with the app, and you can still pick a photo from your library to process.

2. Photo library

When you pick a photo, Grainy uses the system picker. It receives only the photo you select. It does not look through the rest of your library.

A photo is placed in the system album only when you ask. That step uses add-only access and does not browse your album.

3. How you hold the phone

While the camera screen is open, Grainy checks whether you are holding the phone upright or sideways, so the picture can sit upright. The page itself stays portrait.

That reading is used only in the moment. It is not stored, and it is not sent anywhere.

4. Microphone

The microphone is used only for voice feedback.

5. What stays on this phone

A kept photo stores the original, the picture after the look is applied, and the look, frame shape, camera type, and time of the shot.

A note you write stores the light, place, feeling, grade, time, and the look it belongs with.

Grainy also remembers the last camera type, look, frame shape, light setting, flash, and front or back camera, so the next time you open it those are still in place.

All of this stays on this phone.

6. In-app purchase

Some looks can be used right away. Others need a purchase first. Purchases go through Apple. Grainy does not receive your card number, payment password, or billing address. Checking the price and completing payment connects to Apple.

The balance after a purchase, the looks you have unlocked, and Apple’s transaction number are stored on this phone, so the same purchase is not added twice. Grainy has no server of its own that receives this.

7. What Grainy does not do

Grainy has no account and does not ask you to sign in. It does not upload your photos or notes. It has no ads and no analytics, and it does not sell your content. Aside from completing a purchase with Apple, no server receives your photos.

8. How long it stays

Photos stay until you delete them or remove the app. Notes stay until you delete them or remove the app. After you remove the app, the photos, notes, and purchase record on the phone may go with it.

A photo already saved to the system album stays in that album, under the album’s own rules.

The purchase balance and unlocked looks stay only on this phone. They do not follow you to another phone, and they do not survive if you remove the app.

9. Children

Grainy is not made for children under 13. It does not ask you for a name, an account, or a contact address.

10. If this policy changes

If this policy changes, the effective date under the title changes with it. The copy that shows that date is the one that applies.
